ARLINGTON, Texas – The United States Bowling Congress and Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America have joined forces in the formation of a new team focused on youth bowling. The International Bowling Campus Youth Development Team will combine staff resources of USBC and BPAA youth programs under one umbrella.

“The formation of this new team demonstrates the unity of the bowling industry when it comes to our youth,” BPAA Executive Director Steve Johnson said. “Focusing campus resources in one effective team sets the stage for better programs and results at all levels.”

The new team will manage all industry youth programs including membership, high school, collegiate, tournaments, Bowlopolis, Bowler’s Ed In-School and the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund pilot program leagues.

“This change presents a great opportunity to allow everyone passionate about youth bowling to be a cohesive team,” USBC Executive Director Stu Upson said. “All of the campus youth programs will benefit by our staff working together to maximize success for the sport.”

The new youth team will be led by Chad Murphy who will have the title IBC Director of Youth Development and report to both Upson and Johnson. Last year, Murphy initiated the creation of the YES Fund. The YES Fund, a joint project of USBC and BPAA, has attracted several hundred-thousand dollars in contributions from bowling’s top industry brands.

“We have already seen a tremendous level of teamwork and cooperation at the International Bowling Campus through the YES Fund program,” Murphy said. “I believe all of our team members share a common goal of attracting the next generation to the sport and making them lifetime bowlers.”
